R_E_D says: SOCIETY Only our collective acceptance of new behaviours can trigger social and economic cycles that won't disrupt natural cycles. This is less a utopian threat than a call to acknowledge what is self-evident. CITY There are more complex positions on the city available between the environmental and the cultural, the top-down and the bottom-up, and there will be more to come, as environmental design ceases to be culturally illiterate, and urban design ceases to be environmentally illiterate. ARCHITECTURE Environmentally sustainable architecture will become the norm. A radically re-tuned built environment requires a new environmental idealism to think outside the box, and a new environmental pragmatism to make it mainstream. The democratisation of design practice is urgently required.
